Bleaching Drop Cloth Curtains
Hey guys!! I have recently been playing around with the idea of making drop cloth curtains white. I have so many client spaces where the cream color of drop cloths just doesn’t work in but the ideas of $10 curtain panels gets them excited! I mean you can really kill a budget just getting curtains, don’t even get me started on the rods.
Recently I have seen the idea of bleaching and I have been really interested to try! Turns out…it totally works and is super easy!
Large Rubbermaid tub
8 cups of Good ole bleach (sorry my oily friends but mama taught me to bleach it all)
First, you can do this in your washer, but I just chose to try it like this to avoid a lot of smells in the house. If you get a large Rubbermaid tub and fill it halfway with water, then all you need to do is add the 8 cups of bleach and the cloths. You can use a paint stirring stick to stir the cloths up and then just let them soak for 3 hours.
You can string a line across the back yard to wash out the cloths. Make sure there are no wrinkles. Then spray them to remove the bleach.
Then using a third plastic tub, fill it halfway with water, and add some vinegar. I submerged the rinsed out drop cloths in the vinegar mixture to neutralize the bleach. If you skip this step, the bleach may keep working and deteriorate your fabric over time.
After that its time to throw them into the washer for a final cleaning!
Then voila! Cheap WHITE beautiful curtains!! I prefer to hand them using clips with about 3 inches folded over for a cute top decor. The clips are so easy to do and you literally can throw them up in no time!!
So what do you think?! Is this easy enough for you to try at your house?
